Lead Service Line Inventory

Taylorsville-Bennion Improvement District is considered to have all non-lead service lines based on a statistical analysis of a representative sample of the system as reviewed and approved by the Division of Drinking Water.

The District has 17,354 water meters.  Those that were larger than 2-inches or were installed after the federal ban in 1986 are considered non-lead. Of the 13,769 remaining service lines, a sample size of services lines large enough to ensure a statistical confidence level of 95% with a 5% margin of error were randomly selected to evaluate service line material. Service line material was verified in three locations: (1) between the main and the meter, (2) between the meter and the home, (3) at the home. This information was obtained using historic records of installation, visual inspection with and without excavation, and customer surveys.

While the District has met the statistical method to be considered non-lead- we do not want to stop there. Please help us as we continue to identify water service line materials. You can do this by snapping a picture of the service line as it comes into your house and submitting it below.  If you are not comfortable identifying the material, or have questions, give us a call and we are happy to do an inspection.

Thanks to everyone who helped by submitting surveys and allowing inspections so far!!!
